For sale is my immaculate condition 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi after 12 years of ownership.
Subaru only made 431 of these worldwide and this is JDM car number 107/400. It is one of the very few examples here in Australia.
This is a JDM spec delivered new in Japan and I imported it 12 years ago making me the 1st Australian owner. The factory car manuals, history file and some magazines where the car is featured in.
The only modifications that have been done to it include:
- Kenwood Double DIN CD Audio System.
- Aftermarket Turbo Back Sports Exhaust System.
- Interior Mounted Fire Extinguisher.
A bit about the Subaru 22B:
The Subaru 22B was made to commemorate Subaru's 40th anniversary and the third consecutive manufacturer's title win for Subaru in the WRC. When Subaru announced the sale of the 22B all 400 JDM units sold out in the first 48hrs. Following that Subaru made another 24 which were produced for overseas markets: 16 for the UK, 5 for Australia and 3 prototypes. They came with a larger bore engine than the standard 2.0L Flat Four Boxer Engine, a 2.2L Flat Four Boxer Engine, code EJ22G.
Some of the 22B upgrades included:
- Wider front and rear tracks with wide body wheel arches to accomodate.
- Unique 17-inch BBS alloys.
- 2-way adjustable rear wing.
- Aluminium suspension components which helped reduce 25kg's, kerb weight of 1270kg. weight. It sat 15mm lower on Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks, and aluminium suspension components helped it shed 25kg from the STi’s 1295kg.
Japanese manufacturers were worried about backlash from the law about producing powerful cars so they reached an informal agreement in 1988 to limit the power of their cars to 276HP. The 22B is one of those cars that had a claimed power output of 276HP however people have found that they produce more power than the claimed figure.
This car is highly sought after and a Japanese icon in the car world. Serious inquiries only. The car can be freighted worldwide at buyers expense too if interested.
